Each month we bring you an exclusive behind the scenes view of how the Margit Sandemo project is progressing. Coming up this month is an overview of the project and some of the people involved in it...
As you can imagine, a project like Legend Of The Ice People requires a lot of resources and manpower, in many different disciplines. These include translation, cover and internal page design, book manufacture, website concept and design and various marketing activities.

Translations
One of the most important aspects of this project is the translation into English. Translators Gregory Herring and Angela Cook have been busy working through the narrative, careful to reproduce the storyline with as much authenticity as possible.
Gregory learned Swedish after moving there in his early 20's. "Whereas in English there are so many exceptions to the rule, Swedish tends to stick to the rules," he said. "It's a very different language and there are not the number of words as in English so i tend to sit with a thesaurus to find alternatives."
"I have to put across how she wrote it. She can speak some English and she has read it and says that she likes it," he said.
Book cover design
The heady task of designing and creating the book covers has been assigned to Richard Legg. Richard has been in the design and print industry for over ten years and works to an extremely high standard. "This project presents some real challenges. The story begins in the 1500's and ends in the 1980's, so I have to be aware that from a design point of view I need to reflect that in the book covers."
"The first four designs have gone really well and I am pleased with the outcome. It will be interesting to see how the project pans out," he said. |

Website concept and design
The website concept and design has been assigned to Nick Annies. Nick has worked in design and print and specifically website design for over ten years.
"We see the website as being the central hub for the social side of this project. We want to communicate to people that this is the official authentic source for up to date news and information about Margit, and more specifically in relation to the publication of her books in English."
"I'd like the site to be a constant hive of activity, and that's why we are using all of the technologies at our disposal (such as forums and e-newsletters) to create a site that people will want to contribute to and come back to regularly."
In the next installment, we look in detail at the print process and how the books are manufactured...
