MARGIT SANDEMO- MY VISIT TO LONDON TO LAUNCH THE FIRST ENGLISH EDITION OF THE LEGEND OF THE ICE PEOPLE
12 – 14 June 2008
Hello everyone!
As you may already know, I recently visited the UK to launch my Ice People series and now i will share with you my thoughts of the time i spent in London...
Being happily alone and silence are the best things I know. I have never been to London before, and since I am a real ‘lone wolf’ and hate all big cities, I expected the worst. But except for the sometimes crowded and noisy streets of London’s West End, it was a very pleasant surprise! There are so many very green parks and open areas in the centre of London – Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’, and there is such wonderful architecture- and so many fine sculptures everywhere! l really loved them. The people were open and friendly and the restaurants particularly (one of them at the famous Groucho Club) were splendid. Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square, The Mall decked with great flags for the Queens Birthday parade and the fine shops of Regent Street were all highlights I will always remember. So I enjoyed the whole stay very much. And our hosts at The Tagman Press, Jamie Wardley, Chrissy Venditti, Susanne McDadd and Anthony Grey took very good care of us.
At the launch party at the Norwegian Embassy I met many interesting people and the signing of my books at the vastly impressive Harrods department store in Knightsbridge was an exciting experience for me. One German fan, a very nice 25 year-old girl Christiane Biederbeck travelled through the night by bus with her mother all the way from her home in Germany at Gelsen Kirchen just to greet me and get a signed copy of Spellbound at the Harrods signing session. A Swedish fan club sent Karin Jag, a London based representative to the signing and a very nice Polish fan Ania Andrzej brought a Polish language book for me to sign that belonged to her family and had once been in a library in Poland. It was nice too to begin signing books for new English readers and I had a very good feeling being celebrated and knowing that my books are finally being introduced into the English world - and that they are in the good hands of The Tagman Press.
Were there any negative things? Well not many except for my phobia about airports and escalators, which I call rolling-stairs and always avoid like the plague. I love to fly and travel - but the hours before and after at airports are a nightmare! But those are small things and I say a big thank you to all the people at The Tagman Press and the people of London for a fun-filled and amusing time in England!
